Biography
I started my music with programs like Acid and Fruity Loops, assembling each song with loops--those included in the Acid package and loops created by me in Fruity Loops. Rather than rely on loop-based packages, I wanted more control of the sounds and how the signals were treated/processed (through effects, filters, etc). The more I explored with sound, the more I became interested in trying to develop and create different sounds with hardware synthesizers and drum programmers. This experimenting led me to look further in synthesizer programs; the software offers a wider variety of controls and routes to manipulate sounds, shaping them into a single collage.
In 2006, I began working with a program called Reason, named my project gebrochene augen* and put together my first collection of six songs, called "Release One," intended for play on college radio stations.
In August 2006, KUCR began playing my CD. Hearing my work played on the station that I sent it to excited me and gave me incentive to develop more as an artist and create new music, adding additional MIDI controllers to my Reason environment and, for lack of better words, play with the program. From there, I tried to be more creative and to diverge from "normal" song structure and let each song evolve on its own.
I am an engineer by trade and hold a degree in Physics from California Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly). I enjoy music and, as a hobby, I enjoy creating songs. I also have a an interest in photography. This website was developed to share my interest with those who have similar curiosity in these arenas.
*Loosely translated, gebrochene augen translates into "broken eyes" and was inspired by a childhood game of my then three-year old daughter: she would roll her eyes back in her head and flutter her eyelids, saying, "Look Daddy, 'bwoken eyes.'"
